The Ginger Factory and KOKOPOD team up to create a unique visitor experience

It was an “aha” moment had by the Ginger Factory last month as they stepped off the stage at the annual Sunshine Coast Business Awards after winning their category.  They had only just sat down when they heard the winner of the Food & Agribusiness category (small) was awarded to local chocolatier KOKOPOD and the opportunity to do something together was more apparent than ever.

Brigid Woolnough, owner of KOKOPOD has been using local ginger from the Ginger Factory in her chocolates for some time and similarly the Ginger Factory had been stocking her product but neither had considered that the disused chocolate hut on the Overboard Boat Ride attraction at the Ginger Factor could become a unique shopping experience for customers – that was until the “aha” moment happened at the Sunshine Coast Business Awards.

The two businesses wasted no time in collaborating and making this opportunity happen and will officially launch the new attraction this Thursday at 11:30am just in time for the school holidays.

Jacqui Price of the Ginger Factory said, “After a chance meeting with Brigid from KOKOPODat the Sunshine Coast Business Awards where we were both received an award for our business achievements, we just knew this was the perfect match for us.

“Not only do we get to collaborate with an award-winning hand crafted locally made product, we also love that Brigid stands for quality – not just in her product but also in the way KOKOPOD conducts themselves in business.

“We are immensely excited to have KOKOPOD as a brand  activating not only an amazing retail outlet but fun and informative workshops in the chocolate laboratory.

“The Overboard boat ride is an all time favourite at The Ginger Factory, over 100,000 visitors and VIP members ride the boat every year.  The exit point from the ride is actually through the KOKOPOD tenancy. This will provide a guaranteed amount of foot traffic for KOKOPOD and is a more exciting visitor experience for our guests,” Jacqui said.

Brigid is equally as excited at this unexpected opportunity because collaboration is at the core of everything she does.

“It felt right to consider collaborating with The Ginger Factory to open our first retail store – customers are always wanting to come to the factory to purchase products and our wholesale customers are keen to explore the entire range available to them. With the right timing, this opportunity to open in front of 300,000 people annually is perfect for introducing ourselves to the wider Sunshine Coast and beyond.

“I am also excited to be part of events within The Ginger Factory and being able to educate locals from our new Chocolate Lab to show people the processes in the making of chocolate, Brigid said.

Both The Ginger Factory and KOKOPOD are Food and Agribusiness (FAN) members and are proud to incorporate additional FAN members’ primary produce into their product ranges and use chocolate as an art medium to showcase what the Sunshine Coast has to offer.

Jacqui Price is also a board member of FAN and said, “This collaboration encompasses everything FAN stands for and we are delighted to see this collaboration come to fruition.

“KOKOPOD has been producing a Buderim Ginger and chocolate product for some time, we are beyond excited as to what other collaborations we can create with Brigid and her team at the Ginger Factory.  Just imagine what we can get up to for Easter!”, she said.

Chair of the Sunshine Coast Business Awards, Jennifer Swaine said, “when I ran into Brigid following the awards the news of this collaboration made my day. To see successful businesses, recognise and appreciate other successful businesses and then collaborate with each other to achieve new heights and also benefit the region is at the core of what we do.

“These businesses are successful role models for others to aspire to. They are agile and innovative and they demonstrate that by working together we can achieve so much more,” she said.

And demonstrating that this simple collaboration between two local award winning businesses impacts all of us, Visit Sunshine Coast CEO, Simon Latchford congratulated them both on creating a unique partnership that would further enhance the visitor experience.

“I am delighted to see KOKOPOD go into this space. The chocolate hut has not been used in over nine years and it will showcase some of the best of our local produce to locals and tourists alike, in a setting that is unique to the Sunshine Coast.”
