Winners announced at 22nd Sunshine Coast Business and Tourism Awards
The 27 winners of the 22nd Sunshine Coast Business and Tourism Awards have been announced at a gala celebration attended by over 600 guests at the Wandiny Room at Twin Waters Resort. The winners were selected from over 188 finalists and received awards for business, tourism, individual and a range of excellence awards for key aspects of business.
Guests were treated to a sit down dinner and live entertainment as they heard the winners’ names announced by Seven News Sunshine Coast’s Joanne Desmond and Hot91.1’s Nerissa Pace.
In congratulating each of the finalists and winners, Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said: “It is inspiring and rewarding to hear the stories of finalists and award winners. It is a significant achievement for them to be here and to receive the industry recognition and accolades they deserve,
The businesses acknowledged in these Awards have excelled in their chosen fields, and in many instances, have driven great innovations and new technologies.” He said.
“These Awards also acknowledge the important contribution of our business community in growing our regional economy – the second strongest performing regional economy in Queensland. These local businesses have helped strengthen the local economy and created jobs, ensuring that we continue to record some of the highest business confidence levels in the State.”
SCB&TA Outgoing Chair, Ross Hepworth and Incoming Chair Jennifer Swaine said the judges were once again blown away by the entries.
“We are consistently impressed by the innovative and professional approach of our local business community. This year has been another tough one with high quality entries across each category and has made the process even harder for our judges. We have also seen a tie in two categories, a first in our 22 year history!” Ross said.
The highest scoring business across all categories receiving Business of the Year was Nutri-Tech Solutions. This Yandina-based enterprise is the nation’s biggest exporter of sustainable agricultural inputs and organically certified products. Working with multi-national food producers and consults at Governmental level internationally their education division has trained over 30,000 farmers.
HeliMods won the Innovation award, established in 2002, HeliMods has grown to deliver products and configurations to Helicopters operating in the jungles of Borneo, to the frozen plains of Antarctica to North America, Europe and across Australia.
Typefi Systems was victorious in the Export category, a world-leading provider of single-source automated publishing software, helping people around the world publish their content faster and in more formats.
Taking out the Professional Services category was Plaza Central Dentists while Tensegrity Training received this year’s Education and Training award.
Bloomhill Cancer Care went home with accolades for Customer Service and Engagement and Excellence in Leadership and the Business Award for Social Enterprise.
Walker Seafoods Australia impressed the SCB&TA judges, taking home the Agribusiness award for their focus is on sustainable, export grade product and their customer base is global including the east and west coast of the USA, Japan and Europe.
4 Ingredients took out the Creative Industries award well known for their series of 28 cookbooks, 2 TV series, DVD’s, Cookware, Apps and major endorsements. Internationally, the books are now published on three continents, in six foreign languages (Latvia, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Brazil & Turkey) plus in English in Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand and Singapore; it has global sales nearing 9 million.
The Building and Manufacturing award went to Signature Roofing and Guttering, more than just roofing, Signature Roofing and Guttering is about an overall experience to have customers covered for a variety of projects.
Sunshine Coast Radiology was awarded the Health & Wellbeing award and Compass Institute were awarded for Collaboration.
Unparalleled in the level of veterinary care available on the Sunshine Coast, Nicklin Way Veterinary Surgery was awarded Social Responsibility.
The region’s tourism businesses continued to triumph with Beerwah’s Australia Zoo being awarded the Tourism Attractions award. Caloundra’s Rumba Beach Resort gained the Tourism Accommodation – Upscale award and Whale One Mooloolaba won the Tourism Tours award.
Mary Valley Views B+B and ULTIQA Shearwater Resort impressed the judges and were awarded the Tourism Accommodation – Classic awards.
The Coast’s Kawana Waters Surf Club and The Pocket Espresso Bar received top marks and were both awarded the Food & Beverage award, a first in the Sunshine Coast Business and Tourism Award history.
Taking out their third win ab fab – The Stress Free Movers were awarded the Retail award.
Melinda Dines of 4 Ingredients was honoured with the Employee of the Year title and the Outstanding Business Person of the Year was awarded to Will Shrapnel of HeliMods.
And the Sunshine Coast Business and Tourism awards first Young Entrepreneur of the Year was Daniel Proctor well known for his innovative Student WOW Card.
